Women Business Owners Event: Figuring Out Fringe Benefits

Fringe benefits are one of the critical components in attracting and retaining good employees. If you are a business owner with employees, or even if you are the sole employee, fringe benefits have a major impact on your business.

Two successful business owners and WBO members, Kathy Albarado, President and CEO at Helios HR, and Betty Arbuckle, financial services professional, Washington Financial Group, will lead us in a discussion of fringe benefits from both an HR and a financial/investment perspective.

Here are a few expected topic areas; Join us for what will surely be a lively and informative session!

• Which fringe benefits are mandatory?

• What fringe benefits are expected to stay competitive in our region and in the tech industry?

• A discussion about some common fringe benefits: PTO, health, life, disability, dental, vision etc insurance, FSA (section 125) plans, flexible work schedules, retirement plans, stock options, training/education, transportation, other?

• What are “tax-advantaged benefits plans” (cafeteria plans)

• What provides the most attractive Cost/Benefit ratio for the business?

• Upcoming legislation pertaining to Fringe Benefits

• Best Practices and Lessons Learned

An interactive workshop focused on assisting women to enhance their ability to promote themselves in a variety of settings with a special emphasis on the workplace.
 
Attendees will come away from this presentation with:
 
1.  A clear understanding of the barriers to success faced by not only Women in Technology but by most women in the business world with data based on the most updated studies published by Catalyst, the premiere women's research organization.
 
2.  Exposure to tried and true, self promotional strategies and techniques to utilize in the work place to address barriers to advancement, and
 
3.  A list of top priority strategies to improve self-promotion ability and "call to action" steps to get moving in the right direction.Patricia A. Crew, MA, LCPC, NBCC, Master Career Counselor is a recognized expert with over 30 years of experience helping individuals pursue, change and manage careers.

Speaker: Patricia Crew, President, Comprehensive Career Counseling
Patricia is licensed by the State of Maryland as a clinical counselor, has national counselor certification from the National Board of Certified Counselors and the designation of Master Career Counselor from the National Career Development Association. She is also a certified Myers-Briggs Type Indicator practitioner.

With a B.S. from Emmanuel College, Boston, MA, and a Master's Degree in Counseling from the Catholic University, DC, Patricia has completed numerous post-graduate classes in counseling and career development at Johns Hopkins University, as well as training with Dr. Robert Hedaya in whole life Psychiatry. Additionally, Patricia has comprehensive training and experience in bereavement/grief counseling.

Patricia has presented to a vast array of organizations including International Monetary Fund, The University of Maryland at Shady Grove, National Institutes of Health, Women in Technology, Watson Wyatt and Business and Professional Women. Recent presentations include: Get Out of Your Own Way to Get What You Want in Your Career, Secrets to Predicting Career Success that Only You Know, Creating Relationships to Empower Your Success, Winning Strategies to Enhance Your Worth at Work and Take the Plunge: Promote Yourself.
